Near where I live, close to the next village along in fact, is an area of low lying land known as Southlake. In the times before advanced pumping schemes and management of the flow of water through Sedgemoor, Southlake was often deliberately flooded in winter to take the pressure off the rivers.  This meant that it was a very fertile area of land, even though it was wet and boggy most of the time.

On Sunday, I went for a walk there because it was sunny, warm and I hadn't been there for a while. There is a maze of cattle droves and tracks and I can walk the area, get back to where I started and, very often, not have to retrace my steps. I remember that, as a child, my family used to keep cattle there in the summer months and I used to spend a lot of time there helping with the hay-making or milking. Now I go there for the natural beauty, natural beauty like this.

A pair of swans on one of the drainage ditches

In my opinion, one of the best photos I have ever taken!
A swan having a bit of a stretch.

A cow, in a field, with the trees turning to golden autumn.
