Sunday was a gorgeous day, warm, sunny and just really nice. I didn't have a lot of time but I thought I would make the most of it by driving the short distance to Montacute House near Yeovil. The house dates from the late sixteenth century and is built from the fabulous yellow-coloured local stone. For those interested in such things, the house and gardens have been used in lots of films including The Libertine with Johnny Depp and Sense and Sensibility with Kate Winslet. I hadn't been there since I was a child, so, with National Trust ticket in hand, off I went. I took loads of pictures in the short time I was there and I would like to share them with you now. So here goes...
Looking down the drive away from the house.
One of the many balustrady bits
The main view of the house from the lawn.
One of the summer houses
I loved this design which cropped up quite often in the stonework. It struck me as looking very modern.
The other summer house and the lawn
Shapes against the sky
The ornamental lawns
More shapes against the sky
Ornamental lawn from a different angle
In all its glory
I hope you like these. There will be more tomorrow, folks!
