On Tuesday I took my mother and my aunt to Stourhead. It is a big country house about an hour's drive from where I live. We didn't go to the house itself, instead we contented ourselves with a walk round the gardens. As I've said before, I am no gardener but I do like gardens. These gardens were first laid out about 250 years ago and are now considered to be just about the best of their kind in the world. What do you think? Here are some pictures to help you decide.
This is the archetypal view of Stourhead, the stuff of millions of postcards
This handsome chap was in one of the summer-houses.
I loved the sun and shadows contrasting among the leaves.
And that's about half way round the lake. So, I'll save the rest until next time.
