Paul - who brings friendly nonsense

Hi everyone.
My very good friend, Ilmera, suggested that I should register with Live Journal and set up my own page, so, here I am.
I'd better say a little about myself. I'm probably quite a lot older than most of you, but I'm not going to embarrass myself by saying just how old. I live in the UK and I currently work in local government, writing public information for users of social services. It is not very glamourous work but, right now, I'm really enjoying it. I feel very lucky that I have friends from all over the world and I love staying in touch with them.
About eighteen months ago I lost my job and decided to use my pay-off by travelling to my beloved New Zealand and spending four and a half months there discovering what makes the country tick and who there was doing the same sort of thing. I stayed in Backpacker's hostels and spent a lot of my time writing a book about the experience. I discovered the joys of digital photography while I was there and came back with some great images, even though I say so myself. However, the biggest and most important things I brought back to Europe with me were the memories and friendships of the amazing people I met along the way. There are many people that I am still in touch with now and I know that I have made some lifetime friends out of that special time.
When I came home I worked on my book and took some time for myself before I was forced into getting a job. Before that I went across to Switzerland to visit Rebekka, a friend I had made in New Zealand, and her boyfriend. We had a great time touring around her country and it cemented our friendship once again. To travel and make friends is what life should be all about and I would recommend the experience to anyone. Get out there and do it guys.

Anyway, that's enough for now. If my dear friend Ilmera is out there reading this please leave me a message and then my Live Journal experience can really get going.
