Glastonbury Extravaganza Saturday 7 August 2010

On Saturday it was the first of the two night mini music festival known as the Glastonbury Extravaganza. It takes place every year in the grounds of Glastonbury Abbey. It's a gorgeous setting for a laid-back concert. In the past few years it seems to have fallen into the pattern of being a rock act on the Saturday night and a classical concert on the Sunday. As I like most kinds of music I usually go to both. This year the Saturday night was given over to the wonderful British Ska band, Madness. They have been around a long time, know exactly what they are doing and do it extremely well. If you go to a Madness concert you can be sure that you'll know pretty much everything they play and will smile through much of it. They are, in short, good value.

One other delight at these concerts, where people of all ages gather, have a picnic and enjoy the show, is the universal art of people-watching. It is worth the ticket price just to see the vast array of other people, what they are doing, what they are wearing and how well they are enjoying it all.

So, here we go, people-watching and Madness.
