Wanaka tree

(no subject)

This is the final selection of my photos from my recent stay in The Netherlands over Christmas. We did a lot of driving around, which meant that I had lots of opportunities to take photos and get a real feel for what the area is like.

My favourite part of The Netherlands is Friesland and we made a couple of expeditions into the area. One place that really grabbed my imagination was Sloten, the smallest of the province's eleven cities. It is designated as a city but actually has less than 900 inhabitants. It's a gorgeous little place full of old buildings. There were people skating on a makeshift rink placed over the canal that runs through the centre of the city. It was a delight to see this traditional and 'very Dutch' activity being enjoyed by old and young alike. People who are learning to skate for the first time use a chair to balance and keep themselves on their feet.

I really liked Sloten, I hope you like it as much as I did.
