Kilve Beach - February 2010

It's about time I posted some photos. The weather has been, how can I put it, interesting for the past couple of months and I really haven't had much chance to get out with my camera. A couple of week-ends ago, fearful that my aperture might heal up, I braved the cold and went to one of my favourite places, somewhere I have photographed many times before, Kilve Beach. Kilve is an astonishing place. It sits on the Somerset coast of the Bristol Channel and on a clear day such as this you can see the Welsh coast. The rock formations at Kilve are spectacular and I remember going there often as a child to search for, and find, fossils.

Kilve Beach, with a snow covered Exmoor in the distance.

Looking across the Bristol Channel to the South Wales Coast, with the Black Mountain in the background.

The rock shelves at Kilve are remarkable.

All of these sloping rock shelves are covered when the tide is in, and are a great place to walk when it's out.

The gout of steam in this photo is from the local steam train that runs between Bishops Lydeard and Minehead.
