It does get cold here, honest

First of all, I would like to apologise for not having got round to answering your very kind comments on my last couple of entries. I will get there, I promise. In fact, the reason I'm posting these photos now is because I don't know what other chance I'll get this week. I'm sorry about all this, I feel like a really bad friend, and you are all so great and understanding. Hopefully, some sort of normality will assert itself again soon. Until then, the best I can do is comment when I can, post when I can and reply when I can and beg your indulgence and understanding. Thank you all.

We don't normally get particularly harsh weather here in the south-west of England. It's unusual to get snow and we don't often get more than a couple of frosty nights in a row. The past week or so has been very different. We still didn't get any snow but we had a succession of nights where the temperature dropped well below minus five degrees and it didn't get above freezing during the day. Now, I know that for all my wonderful Russian friends that isn't very cold really - I noticed temperatures of minus seventeen and below in Saint Petersburg last week. But for us here minus five is very cold.

It's quite strange reviewing these photos here and now because a serious thaw has set in and it's suddenly warm and muggy, wet and cloudy again - normal winter weather! But, I took these photos on Saturday morning not far from my home. It was minus six as I got out of my car and pulled my camera out of its bag. Some of you will recognise Burrow Mump in the near distance, which is a bit of a giveaway to where I was. I got lucky with some moments of pure delight, like the one where the early morning sun peeped through the hazy clouds just for a moment and shone through the frozen branches of some willow trees, gorgeous.

Anyway, see what you think. And thanks again for sticking with me, I promise I'll reply to your comments, but it might just not be for a day or two.
