I suppose I should explain. I wasn't planning to do much over the week-end; I wanted to protect my dodgy knee and allow it time to heal ready for next week-end and the visit from my friend Babs. So, I wasn't going anywhere special or expecting much to happen. On Friday evening my mother asked whether I would be able to take her on a little shopping expedition on Saturday morning. Given that I had no other plans, why not?
So, at around nine o'clock we set off for Taunton. I was about to turn into the Sainsbury's car park when she said she wanted to go to Comet first. I was a little bemused but carried on past the turning and into the car park for the other stores in the shopping centre. I asked what she wanted to see in Comet, and she said, 'I want to get you a present.' I said there was no need but she said she was going to anyway, so I might as well just go along with it. We went into the store. She walked up to a section of the store and got the attention of one of the staff. She pointed to a display and said, 'I want one of those, please.' The assistant looked from us to the item in the display and just said, 'Very good choice!'
To cut a very long story short, I am now the proud and grateful owner of one of these. I was gobsmacked, delighted, slightly embarrassed, grateful, bemused, gleeful, nonplussed and fuzzy all at the same time.
I still didn't do much at the week-end but I did get a new toy to play with.
