After my early morning assault on Lyme Regis, I went the short distance round the coast to Charmouth. I like Charmouth, it has none of the resort pretentions of Lyme and is just a great beach and a fascinating place to be whatever kind of weather the world is throwing at you. I used to go there as a child and remember it always being sunny. In my adult life it always seems to have been misty and moody, wet and windy. It was certainly wet and windy on Saturday morning, as my photos will bear out, but it was also sunny, in that peculiar way that the weather sometimes has of striking fabled British compromises.

There isn't much else to say really. Charmouth was charming on Saturday morning. It showed me brightness and light, stormy anger and incredible beauty - all in the space of an hour or so. Beauty like this.......

That's Lyme Regis in the distance around the bay.

I got a real impression of the power of the sea as the waves, with a strong wind behind them, pounded into the shore.

Funnily enough, there was no-one sitting on these benches. I can only think that it must have been because it was so early in the day!

As many of you already know, I love signs. I was really amused by this one because they had given the pictogram person a nose!

A couple of chaps off collecting fossils. There had been a big landslip recently, as another lump of the cliff had fallen onto the beach and that's when you can get to the best new fossils.

There seems to be a bench theme developing.

You can see the two very distinctly different weather moods in the sky.

And this is my entry for 'in-flight magazine photo' of the day. I love it.

The ironic thing was that I had driven down to Lyme Regis, spent quite a while there, driven round to Charmouth and spent another hour or so there, driven home and it was still barely ten o'clock in the morning. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning! I'm thinking of doing something similar this coming week-end. Where will I end up? What will the weather throw at me? Stay tuned to find out.
